When a technology-focused company found itself stuck with an unsupported Jira setup, the need for a secure, reliable alternative became urgent. With support from the Easy Redmine team and its built-in migrator, they managed to migrate 80% of their data within two weeks, all without giving direct server access, thanks to guided screen sharing.  

The remaining 20%, including workflows, dashboards and reports, was set up manually by the client’s own IT staff with ease. In just two weeks, their migration was almost fully complete, meeting both data protection and operational goals. 

Previous state

Before switching to Easy Redmine, NRD Companies was operating on an unsupported instance of Jira Server. While Jira had been central to managing their development and support workflows, the end of support from Atlassian introduced significant security concerns, especially for a company working with sensitive government and digital infrastructure projects.

  • Integrated helpdesk system: Needed a centralised ticketing solution to manage client support requests, ensure SLA compliance, and maintain traceable communication across projects. 
  • Custom notification preferences: Required a notification system similar to Jira’s "watchers" feature, allowing specific team members to follow and receive updates on selected tasks, even if not directly assigned to them. 
  • Jira-style automations: Sought robust automation capabilities to streamline repetitive actions such as auto-assigning tasks, updating statuses, or notifying users based on triggers or conditions. 
  • Enhanced data security: Required support for two-factor authentication (2FA) and strict data access protocols to protect sensitive project and client information. 
  • Comments: Ability to add comments (on tasks/records). 
  • Task management: A flexible task management system that supports clear task ownership, priority setting, and status tracking across distributed teams. 

Implementation

Preparation

To meet the client's high security standards, the entire migration from Jira to Easy Redmine was carried out without server access. The client opted for an on-premises installation and retained full control of their infrastructure and data. 

  • Migration timeline: The process was completed in just two weeks. 
  • Initial transfer: Using the Easy Migrator tool, 80% of the data was successfully migrated within the first 2 hours, guided in real time through a collaborative screen-sharing session with Easy’s support team. The client expressed high satisfaction with the speed and clarity of this setup. 
  • Security-first approach: Due to strict internal policies, the client chose not to provide server access. Instead, our team supported them via live screen sharing, offering step-by-step guidance while ensuring data never left their controlled environment
  • Data coverage: The remaining 20% that were primarily workflows, dashboards, and reports required manual setup. This was handled by the client's internal team with ease. 
  • Client autonomy: As the client came from an IT background, they were comfortable managing the final configuration manually. While Easy Redmine offered to assist with these manual steps, the client opted to complete them independently. 

This migration proved that even complex Jira setups can be smoothly migrated into Easy Redmine on-premises, while fully respecting strict data protection requirements.
