Is Jira Data Center end of life?
Atlassian officially announced on September 8, 2025, that Jira Data Center will reach end-of-life on March 28, 2029. This represents the conclusion of the self-managed, on-premise deployment option for Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and other Atlassian products.
After this date, Data Center environments will transition to read-only mode, meaning no new functionality, security patches, or continued support will be available.
What organizations can do now? Immediate actions (before March 2028):
- Audit current deployments: Identify all Jira Data Center instances, marketplace apps, integrations, and custom configurations that depend on on-premise deployment.
- Evaluate Cloud migration: Test Jira Cloud to understand feature parity, performance characteristics, and cost implications. Existing customers report 300% ROI through consolidation and efficiency gains, with teams delivering value 80% faster post-migration.
- Secure critical apps before freeze: If relying on marketplace apps, acquire licenses before the March 2028 cutoff. After that date, no new app purchases are available.
- Plan data migration: Begin technical planning for migrating data, workflows, and configurations from Data Center to Cloud. Atlassian provides migration tools and dedicated support for this process.
- Evaluate alternative on-premise solutions: Organizations unable to migrate to Cloud due to regulatory, security, or compliance constraints may evaluate third-party on-premise alternatives like Easy Redmine or other which offer Jira-compatible functionality.
